Architect, Designer, Yoga Teacher, Health Enthusiast..these are all things I do and they are all things I truly enjoy, but they aren’t my purpose in life. So many times we let our profession or interests define us or let them be the source for our happiness. Eventually we burn out or start looking for something more, something to make us feel whole. When we make our purpose to love and serve God and others, an infinite amount of opportunities appear. So the question I ask is this, what does it mean to have meaning and purpose and how do we weave our purpose throughout our work or interests?
“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.” (Romans 12:6-8)
According to the Bible, our purpose is for God’s glory. So when we turn our attention inward and begin to silence the noise around us we are able to begin listening to our heart. And when we dwell in that place of peace we begin to find our center and embrace that gentle spirit that will lead us to our path. It is knowing that all we need is God. It is knowing that if everything crumbled around us, we still have faith.
We all have different strengths, talents and passions, but there’s one common thread that weaves them all together and that is that they all come from God. God is such an amazing designer! He has blessed each and every person with such unique and diverse abilities and when we hone those talents and work to our fullest potential, the most beautiful tapestry is woven and wonderful things happen. Our love radiates and we make the world a bit brighter. So follow your path, discover your passions, merge those passions with your abilities, make mistakes, make huge mistakes..learn, grow and believe. Make goals and follow through.
Believe that all things are possible.Believe in your dreams. Believe that everything you need is already inside you. Believe that there is an infinite amount of good in the world, and that you are a huge part of that. When God is at your core, nothing is impossible. Give God your weakness and He’ll give you strength. Just close your eyes and listen.
“Clothe yourselves…with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.” (1 Peter 3:4)
